· hand-drawn look
Flipbook redraws the outline of a sticker, a cut-out, an illustration or a title about 8 times a second, with a rough pencil edge, so a still picture moves like the pages of a flipbook. Drag it onto the clip in DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro. No nodes to build, nothing to keyframe.
Before and after · the same drawing
The dog from our card. Out of the box Flipbook is gentle, a slow, wide wobble with a pencil fray on every line. Two sliders take it to the loose cut-out look.
8 new drawings a second, as in the effect. It redraws the outline; it does not move the clip.
On a real edit
I use it on cartoon images, for the same reason I sometimes add camera shake to a static shot: a still picture gets boring fast, and a small effect makes it more fun to watch. Drop it on and the drawing starts to move. Every slider shows the result as you change it.
· seven controls
In DaVinci Resolve everything is on the clip, in the Inspector. Boil and Size are in pixels on a 1080 frame and scale with it, so HD, 4K and vertical look the same.
Flipbook 8, Flipbook 12, Flipbook 8 Loop and Flipbook 8 Hold Frames, dragged onto the clip itself. Each is Premiere's own Turbulent Displace, set up and keyframed for you: the first one is the boil, the second the rough edge. The drawings run for five minutes from the start of the clip; on a longer clip, cut it and drag the preset onto the second part too.
